The era of unlimited password sharing is over. Netflix's crackdown in 2023 changed industry norms. Here is the current state of sharing policies for major services.

Netflix Netflix allows sharing only within your household. "Household" means people living at your primary address. An extra member add-on (€4.99/month) allows one person outside the household.

Spotify Family Spotify Family requires all members to reside at the same address. Spotify periodically verifies this via location data. Members who move out must be removed.

Apple One Family Apple Family Sharing (used in Apple One Family, Apple Music Family, etc.) requires members to be in the same country but **not** the same household. This is the most flexible major family plan.

Amazon Prime Amazon Household allows 2 adults and up to 4 teens/children. Both adults must have separate Amazon accounts and agree to share payment methods. The two adults **do not** need to live together — this makes Amazon Household the best value family split.

YouTube Premium Family Requires household residency. YouTube verifies location periodically.

The Legal vs. Practical Reality Sharing outside the terms of service violates the subscription agreement but is not illegal. Companies can terminate your account. The practical risk is account suspension, not legal action.

The Recommendation Use family plans with eligible family members — they are designed for this and usually offer better per-person value than individual plans. Avoid account sharing outside what is permitted by ToS, as crackdowns have become increasingly aggressive across the industry.
