The short answer
Choose Microsoft 365 if you need the desktop Office apps — the storage then comes with them, with 1 TB per person on the Family plan for up to six people. Choose Google One if your documents are already in Google Docs and your photos in Google Photos, where the free Google apps cover the office side.

If you need desktop Office, Microsoft 365 wins
Microsoft 365 includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook with OneDrive storage. The Family plan covers one to six people, each with their own 1 TB. If you exchange complex Office files with work or school, the included apps are often the whole justification — and the storage is effectively free.
If you live in Google apps, Google One wins
Google Docs, Sheets and Slides are free. For people whose documents are already there and whose photos are in Google Photos, the only thing to pay for is storage, and Google One sells exactly that, shareable with up to five others.
AI is attached differently
Microsoft 365 Personal and Family include Copilot for the subscription owner. Google’s AI features sit on its Google AI tiers. If AI is part of the decision, note that Microsoft’s Family plan shares storage and apps with everyone but the AI features with the owner only.
Avoid paying for both
Households often keep Microsoft 365 for Office and Google One for photos. If Microsoft 365’s storage per person would hold your photos, moving them can end one subscription.
