How to cancel streaming subscriptions

Streaming services are usually the easiest subscriptions to cancel and the easiest to forget. Most have no minimum term, bill monthly, and keep your profile and watch history after you leave, so cancelling costs you nothing you cannot get back.
What goes wrong is rarely the button. It is the billing route. A service bought through Apple, Google, Amazon or a TV or phone provider has to be cancelled there, and cancelling inside the streaming app changes nothing. The second trap is the bundle: a service included in a phone plan or another subscription ends when that plan ends, and a separate direct subscription to the same service keeps billing.
Because leaving is cheap, streaming is the one category where rotating services — subscribe for what you want to watch, then cancel — reliably beats keeping several at once.
Before you cancel: four checks
- 1.Find the billing route. Check the last charge on your statement. If it names Apple, Google, Amazon or your carrier, cancel there, not in the app.
- 2.Cancel on the web, not in the app. Many services hide or disable cancellation in their mobile apps. A browser shows the full account settings.
- 3.Note when access ends. Most services keep you on until the end of the paid period, so cancelling early loses nothing.
- 4.Keep the confirmation. Save the confirmation email. It settles any later dispute about whether the cancellation went through.

Common questions
Do streaming services charge a cancellation fee?
Monthly plans bought directly from the service generally do not. Exceptions are services sold inside a contract — a TV or phone package — where the contract terms apply. Each guide below notes where that is the case.
Why was I charged after cancelling a streaming service?
The most common reason is a second billing route: the service was also bought through an app store or bundled with another plan. Check which merchant name appears on the charge.
Will I lose my profile if I cancel?
