Two kinds of notice rule
“Before renewal” means the notice runs backwards from the renewal date: fourteen days’ notice before a renewal on the 15th means cancelling by the 1st.
“End of month” means the contract can only end on the last day of a month. The calculator finds the last month-end before the renewal and subtracts the notice from it, which can move the deadline weeks earlier.
Arrival counts, not sending
For most contracts the notice must be received by the deadline, not posted on it. Allow time for mail, keep proof of delivery, and cancel online where the provider allows it.

How do I calculate a notice period?
Start from the date the contract would renew or end and count back the notice period. If the contract can only end at the end of a month, start from the last month-end before the renewal.
Does the notice have to arrive by the deadline?
For most contracts, yes — receipt counts, not the posting date. Send it early and keep proof.
What if I miss the deadline?
The contract usually renews for another term or runs another notice period. Cancel immediately anyway, so the next deadline is not missed too.
