Which subscription trackers work without bank access?

Manual trackers never establish a connection. What that rules out, what it protects, and how to do the discovery they cannot.

The short answer

SubTracker, Bobby and TrackMySubs all work without any bank connection. What that costs is detection — none of them can find a subscription you have forgotten, because none of them can see a charge. Do the discovery once by hand, then the ongoing tracking needs no account access at all.

The options

SubTracker. Web and installable, shared household workspaces for up to ten people, 25 currencies, CSV import and export. Free for unlimited subscriptions; reminders and price alerts $5.90/month.

Bobby. iOS only, one-time purchase, no account at all. The simplest thing that works, and it ends at one device and one person.

TrackMySubs. Web-based, more configuration than most people need, business-leaning.

A spreadsheet. No account, no company, complete control. Cannot notify you.

None of these establishes a bank connection at any point. That is the shared property and it is worth being precise about what it buys.

What it protects against

Not incompetence at the aggregator. Plaid, TrueLayer and Tink are regulated and generally careful. The exposure is structural.

For as long as a connection is open, a third party can read your full transaction history — not a subscriptions-shaped subset, because the subset can only be identified by reading everything. That record exists, persists, and can be disclosed, breached or transferred if the company is acquired.

A manual tracker holds what you typed: provider, amount, renewal date. There is nothing else to disclose, because nothing else was collected.

Two related things worth checking in any tool: whether export is complete and self-service, and whether deletion is available in settings rather than by support ticket.

Doing the discovery yourself

The honest cost of no bank access is that nothing gets found for you. Fifteen minutes closes most of it, and it finds things detection cannot.

Twelve months of card statements, not three — annual plans charge once and a short window structurally cannot contain them.

iPhone Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Where forgotten subscriptions concentrate, and invisible to any bank feed because the statement shows only "Apple".

Google Play → profile → Payments and subscriptions.

PayPal → Settings → Payments → Automatic payments. Separate from card charges and survives card replacement, which is why these run for years.

Do all four. Then the ongoing job — keeping the list current and being warned before renewals — needs no account access at all.

Was sich beim Wechsel ändert

Ein manueller Tracker weiss, was du eingetippt hast: Anbieter, Betrag, Verlängerungsdatum.

Rocket Money kontaktiert Anbieter in deinem Namen.

You do not know what you are paying for. Manual entry cannot solve that. Run a bank-linked tool for a month, or do the four-source pass above, before deciding where to keep the list.

Was es kostet

Frequently asked questions

Which subscription trackers do not require bank access?+

SubTracker, Bobby and TrackMySubs are all manual and never establish a connection. A spreadsheet is the fully account-free option, with the limitation that it cannot warn you before a renewal.

Is a manual tracker actually more private?+

It holds less. A manual tracker receives what you type; a bank-linked one receives your transaction history through an aggregator in order to detect charges. The difference is what exists to be disclosed, not how carefully each company behaves.

How do I find my subscriptions without connecting a bank?+

Four sources: twelve months of card statements, the App Store subscription list, Google Play payments and subscriptions, and PayPal automatic payments. Three of the four are unreadable from a bank feed anyway.

Can I use a subscription tracker with no account at all?+

Bobby requires none, and a spreadsheet obviously does not. Anything that syncs across devices or sends reminders needs stored state and therefore an account.
